Summer in Soverato - a view of our hometown from above its roofs.

By Italians on the move - 08:06

Have you ever experienced the beauty of being a tourist in your hometown?

Have you ever stopped and looked at things with awe, as if you saw them for the first time?

I have lived in Soverato for the first 18 years of my life but somehow it always felt temporary, as if I was a tourist in my own streets and this has definitely helped me enjoy its beauty in the most enthusiastic way, conscious that sooner or later I would have had to leave it.
Soverato is a town of rare beauty, a little gulf inside a gulf, laid beside a sea that never ceases to amaze for its cleanliness, with its shades of blue and emerald and its extraordinary sea life.
Of course, it's in the Summer that it reaches the peak of its allure, when the air is warm and the colors vibrant and the breeze smells like salt and suncream.

There is one place especially dear to my heart: my old highschool terrace. The school is set on a little hill and has a huge courtyard that dominates the whole town, opening the view to one of the most breathtaking panorama of Soverato. Can you imagine sitting in your desk, attending a class while trying not to be distracted by this beautiful sight? Exactly.

But Soverato is not only beautiful from above, when you come down that little hill and you put your feet on the warm golden sand, you just can't stop staring with wonder at what is laid in front of your eyes. If you don't like spending money to rent a spot in one of the many "Lidi", which generally constist in a beach umbrella and a couple of beach chairs, there are many free beach areas throughout the whole town, where you can just lay your towel and sunbathe for how long you desire, using the beach clubs just as bars or to have lunch.

I know, I know, this is not a simple travel blog post, this is a little homage to mine and Serena's personal history, since here we grew up, met and started brainstorming about this website.
This is just a preview of the unexpected glimpses of real italian beauty, seen with the eyes of  its wandering citizens, still trying to figure out where they are going  but who will never forget where they come from.

See you again soon in Soverato.
