#TheBrilliantWeekend in Bologna pt .1 - city of food, city of music
By Italians on the move - 07:52
Those of you who follow me on my social media accounts, especially instagram, already know something about my experience for the project called #thebrilliantweekend, an amazing way to promote tourism and food culture in the city of Bologna.
Three friends and I were invited in the city, to enjoy an entire weekend of art, music, culture and great food, to share our experience with all of you. Needless to say we were extatic when we got the invitation, since I fell in love with Bologna years ago and I still love to visit "her" everytime I can., and since my friends have never been there and it was the best way possible for them to get to know the beauty of "The Fat One".
I know, it may seem funny or inappropriate but that is actually one of the many epiteth of the city, the most famous being the fat one, the red one and the learned one.
Maybe I can explain it better with some context and a lot of pictures...
We arrived in Bologna on wednesday morning, after a train ride full of laughters, tweets and candies, absolutely excited for the adventure. As we arrived, we were welcomed by Valentina, the one who planned all our meals and activities for the weekend and after a quick check-in at the hotel, we went straight for the first Bolognese lunch.
Wednesday
Within a few minutes walking in the city center we arrived to Lobb's Bistrot, in the heart of Bologna, elegant yet intimate and welcoming. In Italy we say that "You can tell it's going to be a good day from the morning" meaning that you can see how things will end by the way they begin. And this, my friends, was the best start we could ever expect for the weekend ahead!
For the first lunch I went for a vegetarian option, a vegetable ratatouille with baked tomino cheese, while my friends went straight for the tortellini with white truffle. All washed down with a local white wine, what else could we want more?
Of course our excitement and our funny poses to take the best pictures possible of all the dishes didn't remain unnoticed by all the other guests of the restaurant that started asking us about us and about our weekend. Bolognesi are very open... and very very charming people.
But Bologna isn't only about food, it has also a very alive artistic and music scene, with concerts, festivals and exibitions of every sort.
So why not explore that side of the city?
Luckily for us, Valentina had already thought about everything and she sent us straight to MamBo, or the Modern Art Museum of Bolgona. Waiting for us was the last day of the most visited exibition of the year - "David Bowie Is"- dedicated to the late hero of music itself.
The exposition is a moving and completely absorbing experience, you are surrounded by the spirit of David Bowie both with its amazing art performances and costumes and with music and interviews of his whole carreer. No one can visit this art "show" and not fall in love even more with Bowie's outlook on the world.
So, right after we exited the exibition.... we decided to channel our inner child and join the "Bowie Experience", dressing up with replicas of Bowie's most iconic costumes and fool around in front of the camera, while outside the rain started pouring with no intention to stop.
Time to relax, take a hot shower and look at all the funny pictures of the day and mentally prepare for the next day, one full of experiences for all the senses... Why?
We'll you will have to wait for the next chapter of the story....
